Design Concepts

From the beginning of this design, I knew I wanted to create two things: an interaction example that could be used within a larger course and an interaction that felt fluid in its animation all while sticking to an illustrative look.
Initially, the idea was that the veggie garden would pop up on the slide then move to the left of the screen. When a user selected the radishes, a little title card would pop onto the screen to then grow into what would look like the back of a seed packet. After viewing the information, users would select the back button to then have it fade off screen.
After prototyping the interaction, I liked the initial design concept but created some feedback points for myself. Those included:
- Consider a more engaging opening instead of a standard start button on the initial slide.
- Transform the green hill into a compact green blob to optimize space without losing the intended visual impact.
- Center the veggie patch on the screen initially and have it transition to the left when the user chooses the beets.
- Ensure clear indication of the beets to avoid any assumptions about users' familiarity with them.

With the feedback provided, I enhanced the design to shrink the veggie garden when users select the veggie. When the veggie is selected, the veggie garden also moves to the left where a newly designed seed pack pops up. From there the user can hover over the plant, weather, and temperature icons to learn more about the vegetable. When the user clicks the X icon, the seed packet goes away, the veggie garden moves back to the center of the screen, and returns to it’s original size.
Final Outcome
This project was a great way to show the development process of an eLearning interaction that could be included in a larger course. While it didn’t contain a larger curriculum, it showed how an interaction can enhance the user's experience while taking a course.
